Hacettepe University Institute of Oncology in Ankara is one of the institutes directly affiliated to Hacettepe University. It was founded in 1982 to provide post-graduate students with basic, clinical and epidemiological knowledge and to conduct clinical and basic research in the field of oncology.
The Institute works in three departments: Basic, Preventive and Clinical Oncology. The Institute offers Masters and PhD degrees in Basic Oncology, Cancer Epidemiology, Radiation Physics and other fields of Oncology. Through its collaboration with Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine and Hacettepe University Hospital, it contributes a lot to the fellowship programmes on Medical and Paediatric Oncology, Radiation Oncology education.
It is a well-known institution for cancer research and education and supports the patient services of Hacettepe University Hospitals, the major referral centre for cancer patients in Turkey, with about 5,000 new cancer cases diagnosed yearly.
